About Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest medical systems on the planet and has been practiced in China for thousands of years. It was built on centuries of trial and error processes until the establishment of a complete theory which is in use today. It includes herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, etc. Chinese herbal Medicine consist the use of natural plants and minerals. There are 800-900 different kind of natural plants and 70-80 different minerals that are listed on the Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China for the use in Chinese herbal medicine. All the individual ingredients have been classified by origin, character, performance, function, toxicity and usage in relation to different illness.
Chinese herbal medicine is usually taken in a formulated form, combining different herbal ingredients for different illness. Many formulas have been proven through centuries of use and are consequently well established for their effectiveness for many illnesses, chronic and acute.
The TCM approach of treating illness is different from conventional approach. It not only address a symptom of the illness, relating to a particular organ, but also tonifies or balances all the physiologic functions of the body, so that the patient’s whole functioning is supported.
About HongXing TCM Clinic
Our clinic is a typical old style traditional TCM family clinic in China – passing down family formulas, skills and experiences from one generation to the next, specialising in treating patients with various chronic conditions with formulated TCM remedies.
Our Clinic is different from other TCM practices in some aspects. Most TCM practioners usually treat their patients with different herbs in a pack to make tea, as at our clinic, we have the special skills to make our own formulated remedies in the form of pills (the size of small red bean). This has the advantage of simplicity over the preparation of a 'tea' which, can be a complicated process. The consumption of a pill is less confusing for people who are not used to traditional Chinese medicine, particularly children. We can adjust and formulate pills according to patients’ condition, age, weight etc. Changes in the formulation of the pills can be made at different stages of treatment as the patient’s condition changes.
TCM has been practised along with the conventional medicine in China since the 1960s. We have also integrated the western medicine method into its traditional way by using laboratory tests and urinalysis as the means to monitor the patients’ progress along with the traditional approach, such as observation, auscultation, olfaction and interrogation.
Our main focus is on developing and perfecting the old traditional remedies, helping chronic disease sufferers to improve their quality of life and finding cures for certain, generally accepted, non-curable chronic disease.
